Swim through the channels of Argentina’s wildest wetland holding on to your horse’s tail — one of the most unforgettable ways to experience the Iberá.

Quick facts

The experience

The Iberá Wetlands are a wilderness paradise and the most biodiverse ecosystem in Argentina, drawing travellers from around the world to explore, birdwatch and spot wildlife.

We take you back in time to live the esterero way: ride out with local gauchos and then swim the channels alongside your horse, holding on to its tail, discovering the wetland and its wildlife in a way few people ever do. A support boat follows the whole water section, both for safety and in case anyone wants to finish their swim early.

Highlights

How the day goes

  1. Day 1: Leave La Alondra hotel around 9 am by 4×4 (about 20 min) to the port, then half an hour to meet the gauchos and horses.
  2. An adaptation lap saddled, then saddles off to enter the water bareback — water sections run about 40 minutes.
  3. Full lunch with drinks included, then ride on across the hills to the Iberá Rugua cabin for dinner and overnight.
  4. Day 2: Breakfast and a saddled ride back to the port (about 1.5 hours), then boat and 4×4 back to the hotel; dinner that night.
  5. Day 3: Breakfast and check-out.
